A Sheridan College Agricultural Student is teaming up with a local veterinarian to offer a low-cost horse castration clinic.

Cara Hopcraft and Dr. Candice Carden, with Powder River Veterinary Hospital and Supply, will host their event April 27. Hopcraft says this is an ideal opportunity for owners of horse owners.

“Operation Gelding” was initiated by the Unwanted Horse Coalition, which provides materials and some funding to groups who offer low-cost castration clinics to a community.

Horses brought to the low-cost castration clinic should be at least four months old. Owners will be responsible for handling their horses as well as loading and unloading. All surgeries will be done by a veterinarian. Registration is $50 per horse, and vaccinations, Coggins tests and de-worming can be provided for an additional fee. To sign up, or for more information, call 620-5786 or e-mail carahopcraft@sheridan.edu.
