A Look Back in Time: May 15, 1914

Fred Jensen and Elsie Wentz are in serious condition, and two others slightly injured, in an accident on Carney hill, near Carneyville, last night.

They were among seven passengers in an automobile. The vehicle was about halfway up the hill when the engine stopped. The auto began rolling backward. After a few feet, the vehicle plunged over a steep stone embankment and turned turtle. Mr. Jensen and Miss Wentz are in critical condition today, but officials believe they will recover.

The Commercial Club has appointed a committee to draw up a resolution formally protesting post office plans to discontinue a stage line. The line proposed to be withdrawn is between Sheridan and Buffalo.

School board members yesterday visited the Coffeen avenue, Linden avenue and Central schools. The purpose was an inspection tour to determine what repairs will be needed this year. The Linden and Central schools were found to be in good shape, but the new Coffeen school has a very leaky roof.
