The popularity of the 'Longmire' book and TV series was evident Tuesday night as people flocked to a local historic spot to meet the author and actors. Leslie Stratmoen was there to bring you this report.

Fans of the TV show ‘Longmire’ were treated to a special night Tuesday in Sheridan. In the ballroom of the historic Sheridan Inn, they listened to the author of the books the series is based on, Craig Johnson, spin stories about his characters. Specifically, in the moment, he talked about the mid-winter rescue mission shared by Sheriff Walt Longmire and Lucian Connally in his “Spirit of Steamboat” novelette that was handed out free because of a state initiative.

But, he said, traveling around the state talking about his favorite characters has been fun. As for Tuesday night's presentation that was coordinated by the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library staff, actor Robert Taylor, who plays Sheriff Longmire in the television series that airs Monday nights on A&E was expected to be there, but couldn't because of a recent altercation.

Actually, he said, the actor couldn't make the event because he'd missed his connecting flight in Denver, but would be here in time for the weekend’s ‘Longmire Days’ celebration in Buffalo. The actor who was there was Adam Bartley who plays “The Ferg,” one of Sheriff Longmire’s deputies. He was just as nice as the character he plays, and accessible to his fans, signing autographs and stopping for photos. In a private interview right before the start of Johnson's talk, he said the role has been life changing, and he and his fellow actors have become close. So, he’s looking forward to spending the weekend, off the clock, in Wyoming.

Longmire Days runs Friday through Sunday, and starts with an autograph signing session and ends with a concert, by “The Ferg's” band. Here's the link to the complete schedule of events -- http://www.buffalowyo.com/longmi...

Here are a few highlights from the event:

The Beer – Johnson talks about the run on his favorite brand of beer because the ale is his preferred payment and Sheriff Longmire's favorite brew.

The Book – Johnson gives the background on his book, “Spirit of Steamboat,” and sets the scene.

The Ferg – Bartley talks with Leslie Stratmoen about “The Ferg,” his audition for the part, and how he's looking forward to this weekend's Longmire Days in Buffalo.
