Longmire Days, the community celebration held in Buffalo and based on the Longmire books by local author Craig Johnson, is set for July 18-20 and organizers are still looking for sponsors.
Angela Jarvis is the executive director for the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce. She expects upwards of 10,000 people for the event because the actors from the popular A&E show that's based on the books are coming for the event.
Also, she said, this year they added an extra day, so the towns of Sheridan and Gillette should expect spill-over of attendees staying in hotels. She said Sheridan will even be hosting some events, this year.
She said the three-day celebration is expected to cost about $45,000 to stage and though chamber members continue to make arrangements, they need help from the community.
Among the groups answering their plea, so far, are the Johnson County Commission and the Buffalo City Council, which each matched $5,000 in funds, just this week, to go toward financing the event. The Longmire fund is at roughly $38,000, she said, and they are still in need of at least $5 to $8,000 to reach their goal.
She said sponsors can come in at different levels, from $500 to $10,000, or by specific sponsorship of events. Sponsors can be businesses, organizations or private individuals, she said, and will earn special perks including meeting the actors.
This year's event will include a children's show with actress Louanne Stephens, who plays Sheriff Walt Longmire's office manager Ruby on the show; horseback riding at the Paradise Guest Ranch and a screening of the television series at the Buffalo Theatre on Main Street.
