Local historian Tyson Emborg will take history buffs on a walk back in time tonight at the local cemetery. But first, the high school teacher will be giving some background information on the cemetery that dates back to 1890 and on many of the people buried there.
The program begins at 5:30 in the Inner Circle room of the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library. That's at 335 W. Alger street.
Then at 5:45, he hands off the program to Judy Slack, the director of the Library's Wyoming Room. She'll be giving the tour there, focusing on the obituaries and genealogy research files.
She hands back the reigns to Emborg at 6:15 for the guided tour of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, where 19,000 people are buried. Organizers of the event say many of the death records often contradict with headstones and obituaries. So, the staff of the Wyoming Room are working with the city clerk to reconcile the differences in hopes of developing a comprehensive cemetery guide.
The event has been organized by the library staff. Organizers say they welcome the public to come along for the entire evening, or to join them at any point throughout the program.
