The fund-raising arm of the local hospital, known as the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation, recently received $8,000 from the Big Horn Mountain Eagles Auxiliary No. 4169.
The money will be divided in increments of $2,000, each, for the Welch Cancer Center, Watt Dialysis Center, cardiac care and diabetes education.
The checks were presented by auxiliary members Helen Showers, Bette Hess, and Billie Handel, during a recent meeting of the hospital foundation board.
Showers spoke for the group, saying each were excited to support health care and ensure that excellent specialty care access continues, because each have had family and friends who needed hospital care.
She said the local auxiliary submitted a grant request to the state board for approval, which then went on to the national level. She said the procedure offers a way for local chapters across the country to receive grant opportunities to fund their local non-profit organizations in need of financial assistance.
She said her Eagles Auxiliary organization has given more than $36,000 to the Sheridan hospital foundation over the past 17 years, since 1997, to be used for a variety of community healthcare projects.
