Three of the four students from Sheridan College who will be competing in a national leadership conference in Kansas City this month are from the local area.
They are Grant Belton and Kolby Brown of Sheridan and Preston Walters of Buffalo. They, along with Dakota Hennigh of Guernsey, were the four students who shined in the statewide Skills USA Conference and Skills Championship held in Casper in April.
They'll be joined by two others from Gillette College – Cody Sanburn of Sheridan and Karson Mennie of Colstrip, Montana. Each student won first place in their respective category at the state competition.
The categories they're competing in at the national level are: Belton in precision machine, Brown in technical math, Walters in carpentry, Hennigh in cabinetmaking, Sanburn in job skill demonstration and Mennie in diesel equipment technology. The conference will be held June 23-28.
Sheridan College technical faculty accompanying the students will be Sara Spann and Duane Fischer. Spann said taking part in the national leadership and skills conference will provide the students with a first-rate learning experience and expose them to cutting edge technology and innovation.
