It seems even the most amateur grillers pull out the dusty BBQ from the garage for summertime sausages, burgers and wings.

Some, however, are a little more serious about their steaks:

Zach Root, along with his other “Aprons Only” Sheridan team members, Randy Hyder, Jim Scott and Ken Hershman, just returned from Worland, where they competed in the “Kansas City Barbeque Society State Championships.” Returned, indeed, not just with their sauce-splattered aprons, but also bearing 1st place status among the Wyoming competitors and 4th place overall.

They competed against 31 teams—and some, as was mentioned—take the BBQing business pretty seriously:

And while the “Aprons Only” crew are keeping their day jobs for now, they are simmering up for their next competition in September. And as they are tweaking and “perfecting” their recipes for Caribbean jerk chicken and beef briskets Zach says they are also trying to bring the BBQing arts to more local venues:

So perhaps we will be seeing more of the BBQing arts locally. And, if any of you are interested in what it takes to become a “pro BBQ-er” in the literal sense:
