The Buffalo Lion's Club Fishing Derby, the 28th annual, will be happening at Lake DeSmet this Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Lion's Club member Keith Neustel explains what the derby is and the prizes that will be awarded during the weekend.
Neustel said the derby is a family event, with prizes for adults and children alike. Saturday and Sunday they will have a sucker and carp contest for the kids, and they don't need to be registered in the derby to win a prize. There will also be casting contests for the kids both days as well.
The funds rasied from the derby will be put right back into the community through the club's various donations, Neustel says.
Tickets to register for the derby can be purchased in Buffalo at Wahoo Likkers, Lake Stop, Crazy Woman Liquors, BigHorn Co Op, Sports Lure and Williams' City Liquors and Elmer Power Sports.
In Sheridan tickets are available at Kwik Sack, Bighorn Powersports, and BCNU Bait and Tackle.
In Gillette, they can be purchased at Hardware Hank, Rocky Mountain Discount Sports and Lakeway Powersports.
Also, tickets will be available from Lion's Club members at their Lake DeSmet headquarters while they last.
All anglers must have valid Wyoming licenses as needed and follow all state fishing regulations.
