Saturday, Whitney Commons was flooded with pink as hundreds participated in the 5th annual breast cancer awareness walk called “The Link-Partners in Pink.” Sponsored by Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation, the event included a 10K run, a 5K walk/run and a 1.5 mile walk.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All funds raised at The Link support cancer diagnostic projects at the hospital. Event coordinator Ada Kirven says early detection is the key.
The risk of getting breast cancer increases with age.
Participants received a t-shirt and pink snack sack. Last year, over $27,000 was raised to support mammography. This year, it is estimated that close to 40,000 women in the United States will die from breast cancer.
