The Johnson Count Library Board presented a number of different possibilities for funding their proposed expansion project to the Johnson County Commissioners at their meeting Tuesday.
Buffalo City Planner Zach Montgomery, who has been helping with the project since the beginning, presented a number of grants, loans, and other funding sources he has discovered while looking for help funding the project.
Initially, the county and the city had agreed to help fund the expansion project, but that was before the valuation of Johnson County took a major hit this year, falling from an all-time high of $1.2 billion just a few years ago.
With the drop in valuation, the county is not sure how much, if any funding they will be able to contribute to the project, and are suggesting the board might pursue other options at least for now, and see where the financial situation in the county is in the near future.
The board will continue looking for funds through the SLIB, consensus funding, and all the other possible revenue sources, including the possibility of putting the project on the ballot for public approval, probably on the November, 2014 ballot.
