The Johnson County Library updated the county commissioners on their recent auction fundraiser and their latest plans concerning their proposed expansion project.
Director Cynthia Twing said the fundraiser was a lot of fun and was one of the most lucrative fundraisers they have had in recent years.
The oral and silent auctions brought in more than $22,500; a “match board” brought in another $800; and sponsorships added more than $5,600.
The Friends of the Library raffle netted $3,800 and an anonymous donation was given to the library before the fundraiser in the amount of $20,000 that was earmarked for the expansion project.
She explains where this year's funds will be used.
She asked the commissioners if they knew when they might make a decision on whether the library expansion or the proposed new rec center would be on the 2014 ballot.
So far, no decision has been made, but Commissioner Jim Hicks asked Twing to speak to the library board to see if they would be interested in “piggybacking” questions about the library expansion project onto surveys that will be done on the county's zoning regulations.
She will speak to the board and advise the commission.
