Legislature Working to Improve School Facilities Commission Process

In the past few months, we've been reporting on the frustrations that Sheridan County School District 1 has had in building the new Big Horn Elementary and Jr. High / High School facility. Mid-way through the project, the School Facilities Commission changed some of the guidelines regarding square footage.

Adding to the problem is that District 1 does not have a facilities manager to work directly with the SFC, making it necessary for Superintendent Sue Belish, Business Manager Jeremy Smith and the District 1 board to take time from their education-related jobs. Representative Rosie Berger.

The situation has brought about many amendments to the 2010 Budget, and she says.

Berger is hopeful that they will have good results, not only for Big Horn, but for other districts in the state who will have to work with the School Facilities Commission in the future.
