Tuesday's meeting of the Johnson County Commissioners will begin with a discussion of the proposed lease of Lake DeSmet by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
Mark Fowden and Paul Mavrakis, both with Game & Fish, will be on hand for the discussions.
Game and Fish has offered to lease water in the lake to help protect the trout fishery and take care of shoreline management for a 99-year lease term, in exchange for roughly $3 million to be paid to the Lake DeSmet Counties Coalition.
Johnson County has been opposed to the specific terms of the lease, saying the length of the lease was too long for the amount of money being offered for the water. Sheridan County and the LDCC are both in favor of the lease.
Game and Fish officials have so far chosen not to change any terms of the proposed lease, telling Johnson County they wish them to make a decision on the lease before the next G&F meetings in September.
The commission meeting and the Game and Fish discussion will both begin at 9am this morning upstairs in the county courthouse.
