Latest Section Of Pathway Opened On Thursday

Sheridan has had pathways that go from Thorne-Rider Park in the north, clear to Sheltered Acres Park in the South for some time now. Crossing 11th Street near Thorne-Rider Park required a detour of several blocks until this week. City officials officially opened the latest addition to the pathway system yesterday. City Engineer Lane Thompson says the underpass beneath the 11th Street bridge, greatly improves access to the park.

The project has been planned for more than two years, but the majority of the time was spent on getting approval of the Army Corps of Engineers since construction took place on a Corps flood control levee.

The project cost nearly $100,000 and the City received a TEAL grant for $75,000 to help cover the cost.

The new section of pathway can be accessed from Thorne-Rider Park or the north end of Marion Street.
