Last Day of the 2010 Budget Session - The Budget Gets Signed

The 2010 Wyoming Legislative Budget Session wraps up in Cheyenne today, with a handful of bills slated to be signed in a ceremony set in the Capitol Rotunda. Among those bills is House Bill 1, the General Government Appropriations. Representative Rosie Berger comments.

Two people that have been waiting for word about the final appropriations bill are Superintendent Sue Belish from Sheridan County School District 1 and Superintendent Craig Dougherty from Sheridan County School District 2.

Berger says that it has been a real learning curve in working with the School Facilities Commission, and a lot of fine-tuning of policy on future school construction will be taking place.

Other accomplishments from this session, Berger says, included passing a pilot project on a Health Savings Account for lower income people; passing a bill on Telehealth for rural residents; they increased slightly the funding for developmental disabilities organizations for providers; they added the school optional insurance program into the state's health insurance program; and they strengthened DUI enforcement penalties.
