The Lake Stop at Lake DeSmet is having the first of what is hoped to be an annaul event, the “Light Up the Lake Boat Parade” this weekend. The idea is for participants to decorate their boats in lights and have a parade on the water Saturday night.
Mandy Simondi, whose family owns the Lake Stop, said her parents owned a place at Keyhole Reservoir, where they have a similar parade, which gave them the idea to try it here. Their event started with three boats a number of years ago and now has upwards of 35 boats every year. Simondi explains the Lake DeSmet parade.
Prizes will be awarded for the top three boats that adhere to the Fourth of July theme, she said, but some entrants are putting an entertaining twist on the theme.
There will be live music at the Lake Stop before and after the parade and on the boat during the parade to keep everyone entertained.
There is no entry fee, but they do ask that you register for the parade by calling 684-8700, by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or in person at the Lake Stop before 5pm Saturday.
