It was the 3rd month for the 3rd Thursday Street Festival which hosted the 3rd annual “Blue Ribbon Cook-off, all Thursday night on Main Street in downtown Sheridan.
Three teams vied for first place: 1st Interstate Bank, the Pony Bar and Grill, and King's Saddlery. Ryan King from King's Saddlery took the $500 1st place prize after grilling up his two 16 ounce rib eyes.
His secret...get your grill good and hot, searing both sides and keep it simple, using lots of salt and pepper.
The $80 entry fee got each team two steaks, a table and workstation, presentation plates and a 3rd Thursday logo apron. Contestants brought their own grills and cooked the steaks with judges keeping a close eye.
One steak went to the judges to taste test and the other was auctioned off with all proceeds going back into the 3rd Thursday Street Festival.
King, whose birthday is today is headed to Deadwood, South Dakota to spend a little bit of his prize earnings.
Judging was based on sanitation and proper food handling, proper temperature of the cooked meat, presentation, taste, and description of the entry. Hopes are for the “Blue Ribbon Cook-off” to get bigger and better each year.
