Four people from Sheridan will be honored for their service to the community at the WYO Theater on Thursday night.
Bill Avery, Anne and Scott Nickerson and Dixie See will be recognized in a reception at 5:30, and receive this year's Keystone Awards in ceremonies starting at 7:30. Tickets to the event are $35 or $75, with dinner. Proceeds from ticket sales and a raffle benefit the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center.
Avery is a retired music teacher. He's known for starting the Kendrick Park Summer Concert Series, which has become an annual event in the Sheridan community. He also has volunteered at the Methodist church, singing and leading the church bell choir for five decades. He was the 2007 recipient of the American Association of Retired People Andrus Community Service Award.
The Nickersons are founders of the Nickerson Family Foundation, and have been advisers to many other capital campaigns, according to information provided by the Senior Center. Anne Nickerson was instrumental to the concept and support of the Center for a Vital Community, and her husband has been involved with the Sheridan Memorial Hospital board of directors. Both have been contributors to the Sheridan College Archaeology Project.
See is co-owner of ERA Carroll Realty, and is active in the Sheridan organization for realtors. She is a two-time recipient of the Realtor of the Year award and is a Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year. She has supported local charities, financially, and by serving on the boards of many, including Christmas in April, Forward Sheridan, Sheridan Memorial Hospital, the Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Sheridan Heritage Center. She is a member and past president of the Chamber of Commerce board.
The Keystone Awards, now in their fourth year, honor those who have spent a lifetime in service to the community. Tickets can be purchased by either calling the theater or by going online. The contact information: Box Office – 672-9083 – Website – www.wyotheater.com.
