The Wyoming Game and Fish regional office in Sheridan has released information about improved campsites near the Kerns Wildlife Habitat Management Area. Information Specialist Warren Mischke says the area is expanded and safer, thanks to an agreement with some other agencies.

Mischke explains that the improvements allowed the Kerns camp area to be moved, allowing for better elk crossing and elk number management.

There is no fee to camp at the Kerns site; campers get their spots on a first-come, first-served basis. There are also no facilities.

Mischke says that on November 1st Game and Fish personnel will place a locked chain across the road just past the main entrance gate. Any vehicular travel beyond this point on the unit will be prosecuted. This helps to increase elk harvest in this area which helps the Department manage big game numbers.
