Officials with the Bighorn National Forest want to remind people that even when the ground is snow covered that no off-road vehicles or ATV's with wheels are permitted to be off of open numbered posted roads. Over the holidays there were several reports of ORV's operating off of numbered roads near the Pole Creek Nordic Ski area.
That's Craig Cope, Recreation Specialist with the Powder River Ranger District of the BHNF. Cope says that only snow machines designed for over the snow travel with continuous tracks or belts and skis are permitted to be off of numbered roads from November 16 through May 15, as long as there is snow cover and no resource damage occurs.
