CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A district court judge says Governor Dave Freudenthal should have released budget cuts proposed by state agencies. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle sued the governor and two state agencies in May for withholding their budget recommendations.
Wyoming Attorney General Bruce Salzburg argued that the state shouldn't have to release documents that it wouldn't be required to reveal to a private party in a lawsuit involving a state agency.
Judge Edward L. Grant agreed that that the law should allow for such a "deliberative-process privilege" exception. But he said documents outlining proposed budget cuts wouldn't be covered by it.
An attorney for the Tribune Eagle had argued there is no such exception under Wyoming law.
