The Johnson County YMCA hosted its annual triathalon. Hannah Stepenoff has the details.
The Johnson County Family YMCA was abuzz with action as locals competed in the 31st Annual Buffalo Triathlon over the weekend.
Teams and individuals participated in a duathlon event that involved swimming 36 lengths—or a half-mile—in the pool on Friday, and then on Saturday biked 14 miles.
While those who participated in the solo triathlon, did the same, but added a 4.2 mile run on Clear Creek Trail to their agenda—and had to complete all three tasks on Saturday.
The morning was a brisk one, but all solo participants stayed on task when they had to leave the pool and change in to their biking gear without complaint.
Wellness and Programs Director Tim Cahhal said they often get last minute sign-ups on the day of, but the turn out was what he expected.
The duathlon teams started the biking leg at 8 a.m., which was followed by women's and men's solo biking.
The event will help to fund the organization's scholarship program, he said, which helps those in need make their member costs and participation fees in programs.
