The Johnson County Family YMCA had issued a request to the Johnson County Commissioners to consider adding a Recreation Mill for them to help fund a new facility to replace the current aging YMCA building.
Commissioner Delbert Eitel had discussed the issue with the YMCA and brought the request before the other commissioners at their last
Commissioner Jim Hicks was opposed to the county giving the YMCA one of their 12 mills, saying the county was barely able to run itself as it is, without taking a full mill away from themselves.
A full mill this year is worth $784,000.
The Commissioners, after some discussion, decided to recommend the YMCA look into a possible one-cent tax and putting it on the ballot for county residents to help decide to fund the new facility they want to build.
