Johnson County Vacates Property, Opens Rec Area

Johnson County's Commissioners voted to approve Chair Smokey Wildeman to sign a vacation of county-owned property near the Airport Road/Watkins Avenue/North Main Street interchange.

The vacation was necessary to fulfill an agreement with owners of the Baldwin Property at the interchange when the re-alignment project at the interchange was negotiated a few years ago.

Wildeman explains the vacation further.

The commissioners also announced that the Mikesell/Potts Recreation Area at Lake DeSmet is now open for camping as of the first of May.

A number of new amenities at the recreation area have been added by the county over the winter months, according to Wildeman.

The Mikesell/Potts Recreation Area is owned and maintained by Johnson County and has boat ramps, 40 camping spots, picnic areas and restroom facilities.
