Johnson County To Use Title III Funding For Search & Rescue

Johnson County To Use Title III Funding For Search & Rescue

At their meeting last week, the Johnson County Commissioners voted to use left over Title III funds for reimbursement of expenses for work associated with fire and emergency services performed on Federal lands.
The original Title III funds, $110,535 have been earmarked for a county rural signage program through the Johnson County Fire District. County Fire Chief Wes Johnson and his crews have been working on completing the signage but have until the end of 2013 to use the funds.
County Treasurer Carla Faircloth explained to the commissioners that $12,600 was still available in that account that had yet to be earmarked. If the funds are not earmarked by the end of September they would revert back to the Federal government.
The county will go back through Search and Rescue records for more incidents that can be covered under Title III rules and are confident the remaining $12,600 can be earmarked.
The commissioners voted to earmark the remaining $12,600 for a reimbursement to the county for expenses incurred by the Johnson County Search and Rescue during operations on Federal lands.
