Johnson County Signs Lease With State On Youth Camp

The Johnson County Youth Camp now has a new lease agreement between the county and state for the site located on state land just off of Hazelton Road in the Big Horn Mountains.

Johnson County’s Commissioners signed the new lease agreement at their Tuesday meeting.

The City of Buffalo had the original lease with the state, from nearly 20 years ago when the camp was moved by the city from Tie Hack to its current location to allow for the building of the city-owned dam and reservoir at the Tie Hack site.

Commissioner Jim Hicks explained what will likely be the next step for the Youth Camp Board.

The city agreed to back out of their lease and allow the county's lease to go through with the state, as they have not been involved in the day-to-day operations of the site, only paying the yearly lease to the state since the camp was moved 20 years ago.
