Johnson County Sheriff Gives Update On Cato Fire

*UPDATED* Johnson County Sheriff Steve Kozisek gave a quick update on the Cato Fire Wednesday morning to the county commissioners, and spoke to Sheridan Media afterwards.

Kozisek explained the situation.

Kozisek said crews have been aggressively fighting the fire that began late Monday and really picked up Tuesday with the perfect Red Flag conditions for fire. 100-degree temperatures, coupled with low humidity and 50 mph winds with gusts over 60 mph helped to push the fire to the 20,000 acre mark, he said.

No injuries have been reported so far, he said, and he cautioned it may be a long summer fire season.

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead's office called the County Commissioners Wednesday to offer any assistance the State can to Johnson and Sheridan Counties fighting the Cato Fire.

Commissioner Smokey Wildeman said County Fire Chief Wes Johnson was coordinating more resources.
