The Johnson County Commissioners, at last week's meeting, voted to purchase a property surrounded by county-owned lands at the fairgrounds.
The property had recently become available for purchase, they said, and they chose to pursue the purchase of the property to assure there would be no “island” of private property in the fairgrounds area.
The negotiated and agreed to price for the 2.7 acres of land, a house and outbuildings located at 30 Fairgrounds Road was $350,000.
No decision on how the property will be used has been made, and according to the commissioners, the Johnson County Fair Board will be in charge of the decision.
The $350,000 will come from the county's General Expense Account.
