Johnson and Campbell Counties recently spoke with Ecosystem Research Group (ERG) to discuss the Bureau of Land Management's Buffalo Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Powder River Basin.
The three entities are concerned over the proposed “raptor nest buffer zones” described in the document.
Their concerns are with the database and biological data on nests used by the BLM, which they feel is faulty data.
Energy development in Northeast Wyoming could be heavily impacted if the RMP is drafted in its current form.
Campbell County's Commissioners have decided to have ERG go ahead with compiling information to possibly file an objection or appeal based on what they believe is faulty data on the raptor nests contained in the RMP.
Johnson County's Commissioners also pledged funds toward the project at their meeting last week.
The total cost will be $37,500 according to discussions at the meeting, and Johnson County committed 1/3 of those costs, $12,500 with a contingency built in, not to exceed $14,000.
