At their meeting Tuesday, the Johnson County Commissioners appointed an interim Fire Warden for the County, appointing Powder River Fire District Chief Stave Haines to the position.
Commission Chair Delbert Eitel said the commission has been discussing the idea of putting in an interim Fire Warden for a number of months. No budget exists for the new position as yet, but will be addressed for the upcoming FY2014 budget. He also said the appointment of Haines was on an interim basis and that applications and a full interview process will follow later this year to put someone in that position on a more permanent basis.
Haines spoke briefly to the commission, saying he believes fully in the position and disagreed when the county did away with the position last year.
The commissioners approved the appointment of Haines as Fire Warden unanimously.
Haines will oversee both the Powder River Fire District from Kaycee and the Johnson County Fire District in Buffalo as the main contact in the county for local, state and Federal agencies for fire issues.
