Johnson County Discusses 'Big 5' Access

Johnson County's Commissioners discussed access to public lands known as the “Big 5” area in Northern Johnson County.
The public lands are landlocked by private land and now there is a push on to get public access to the lands through a county-owned easement on the north end of the public lands.

The commissioners discussed favoring a secondary access that would be located on the south end of the public lands, where a parking area could also be built.

The commissioners discussed having County Planner Jim Waller draft maps of the area to help in the decision for the possible access, and also discussed a possible parking area on the north end instead.

The Commissioners decided to seek a meeting on site at the Big 5 with representatives of the Game and Fish, State Land Board, landowners and other interested parties to discuss the matter further.
