Johnson County Cleaning Up Old Road Records

Johnson County Cleaning Up Old Road Records

Josh Johnson and Mark Bedford with Big Horn Surveying and Engineering gave an update to the Johnson County Commissioners this week on their work to clean up road easements and rights-of-way on file at the courthouse to have more accurate information for county mapping and GIS services.

WYDOT gave a grant to the county back in 2009 to see where the county has problems with old surveys and get them cleaned up. Big Horn Surveying and Engineering has been working on the project since 2009-10.

Johnson and Cheryl Benner with County Road and Bridge explain the project further.

TW Road and Upper Clear Creek Road were the focus of their report at this week's meeting.

TW Road, or County Road 204, runs from Highway 16 East past the county landfill and Mr. R's and on to the intersection with Tipperary Road.
Johnson and Bedford found a number of discrepancies from old surveys and land filings in the courthouse and have since rewritten the easements and rights-of-way for the road as it currently sits.

The commission adopted Resolution No. 470 which vacated old survey #8 and establishes the road with this new survey.

County Road 256, or Upper Clear Creek Road, which runs west from Klondike Bridge along Clear Creek, was more straightforward, they said, with better documentation and more accurate surveys on file. One issue they found was that the road actually ends, by survey, east of Klondike Road and suggested the county deed that portion of the road to the City of Buffalo, which the commissioners chose to do.
