Johnson County Approves Employee Review Resolution

Johnson County Approves Employee Review Resolution

A Resolution to give the Johnson County Commissioners authority to conduct employee reviews was passed at their last meeting, but not before discussions between the commissioners and some of the department heads and other county employees.
The Resolution does not give the commission authority to review departmental employees under the supervision of the department heads, only those employees that are directly supervised by the commission.
Commissioner Smokey Wildeman explains further.
The Resolution also gives authority to the commission chair to be the “go-to person” in case an issue arises and a decision cannot wait until the next meeting. The chair will then report back to the full commission on the issue and decision at the next meeting.
The authority does not extend to include termination or hiring of employees. Those decisions still need to be made by the entire commission.
County Attorney Ken DeCock thought it necessary for the county to have a policy in-line with state recommendations on employee reviews and to keep those employee files on record.
