Contracts between Johnson County and Volunteers of America were agreed to in principle with one approved at the county commissioner's meeting Tuesday.
The approved contract was a renewal for VOA to provide juvenile detention and other services to the county for FY2013.
The current contract was used as a basis for the new contract, with the only changes to rent and cell phone expenses.
VOA and the county have been looking at moving the services office into the remodeled former criminal justice center, and VOA had proposed paying $900 a month in rent. With the savings from the change in their cell phone carrier, they felt they could make the current proposed contract work. VOA wanted a two-year contract commitment from the commissioners, but they opted to stay with a year-to-year review and contract renewal.
The Justice Center JPB, in a special meeting Tuesday afternoon, voted to approve the rental agreement with the VOA.
The rental agreement is for one year beginning July 1. The contract for juvenile services was approved, while the rental agreement and bed-day agreement will be drawn and brought back before the commission for signatures.
