The Wyoming State Legislature is a little over half-way through the 2011 General Session. We spoke with Senator John Schiffer of Kaycee, and he says now that they've gotten through a lot of what he terms the “social issues” bills, they have moved on to education bills with some healthy and robust debate.
Tuesday afternoon, the Senate killed on third reading the Teacher Tenure bill. Senator Schiffer discusses further that vote.
He feels that the middle ground compromise was the best decision they could make.
Educators around the state were, for the most part, happy – if not surprised – at the outcome of that vote. Schiffer comments.
The senator says that mentoring programs for teacher improvements were a supplement to the funding formula about five years ago, and they are seeing the fruits of that investment.
Tomorrow, Senator Schiffer will tell us about two bills of which he is sponsoring.
