Yellowstone Opens For Winter Season Today

Yellowstone National Park is now open for motorized over snow travel for the winter season. The new temporary plan allows for up to 318 commercially guided snowmobiles in the park a day and up to 78 commercially guided snow coaches per day.

New Chaps Program Helps Veterans

CHAPS stands for Children, Horses and Adults in Partnership and they've been providing equine assisted therapy in the Sheridan area for the past five years. CHAPS Executive Director Sue Suddith explains a fairly new program that assists Veterans.

Toys For Tots Down To Final Push For Donations

The United States Marine Corps sponsors the “Toys for Tots” program every year leading up to Christmas. The goal is to make sure that those in need can provide a Christmas toy to every child. Retired Master Sergeant Jim Craig has organized the campaign for the Marine Corps here in Sheridan for several years.

University President Visits Sheridan And Talks Tight Budgets

University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan visited Sheridan on Friday. The tough economy has had very little impact on capital projects on campus. Buchanan says that most current capital projects were funded in the budget cycle prior to the recession. However, the school was able to make the cuts requested by Governor Dave Freudenthal last spring.

Local Non-Profit Gets $50,000 Donation

The spirit of the holidays certainly hit home for a local non-profit last week. Volunteers of America accepted a $50,000 grant from the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation. The money has been designated for many of the programs in the veterans services area in both Montana and Wyoming. VOA recently completed Freedom Hall here in Sheridan and has a similar project in Billings, Montana.

Tax Increase To Pay For The Surge In Afghanistan

Some agree with this but for the majority a tax increase is never a good thing. Some think that they should not tax but should cut other expenses. Others think that we should not even be in Afghanistan.
