County Finalizes Many Land Use Fee Changes

Earlier this month the Sheridan County Commissioners approved a new fee schedule that would cover most land use services provided by the county. The new schedule covers everything from conditional use permit applications to subdivision plats. Yesterday, commissioners took the next step in making the changes official.

Sheridan County School District 1 Gets Good Audit Report

Enrollment in Sheridan County School District #1 is falling similar to a decline at the same time last year. Unfortunately, school funding is based on the average daily membership of students in class. The District #1 Board received a positive audit report at their meeting Tuesday night. As student populations decline, funding dries up just when costs are rising.

Ranchester Council Needs More Time To Consider Land Purchase Agreement

City Planning Commission Refuses To Consider Updated Sign Ordinance

The City of Sheridan Planning Commission refused to take any action on a proposed amendment to the City’s sign ordinance. The updated code would get very specific about size and height of business signs. One addition provided to the commission would enable a person with multiple non-conforming signs to receive a bonus by removing those signs.

Planning Commission Approves Application For Local Office Building

An office building that was originally supposed to house the new offices for Forward Sheridan came before the Sheridan City Planning Commission again on Monday night. The developer was asked to halt construction due to a compliance issue with plans for the building.

Gillette College Dedicates New Technology Center

The Northern Wyoming Community College District has been providing classes in Gillette for over three decades. First, as the Sheridan College – Gillette Campus, and now as Gillette College. For most of that time technology courses such as diesel mechanics and welding were taught in whatever space was available.

Child Development Center Will Name New Facility After Long Time Board Member

Karen Kocurek will have one of Buffalo’s newest buildings named after her. Kocurek has served over 20 years on the Board of Directors for the Child Development Center Region Two, and was instrumental in starting the program here. The center serves both Sheridan and Johnson Counties.

Weather Should Be A Bit Warmer This Week

The first couple of weeks of December have been extremely cold to say the least, as temperatures have been far below average for this time of year due to arctic air from Canada. Things should start to warm up throughout the week as we'll be hitting some 40 degree days real soon says Meteorologist Sean Campbell.
