The Johnson County Commissioners gave their support for a proposed set of statues on land owned by them at the corner of Fort and Main Streets in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce's Ambassadors, the Wild Bunch, made the presentation to the commissioners at their meeting Tuesday.

What the Wild Bunch is proposing is explained by Chamber Director and Wild Bunch member Angela Jarvis.

Because the County owns the property, the Wild Bunch wanted their approval before moving forward. Funding would come from a TEAL (Transportation Enhancement Activities Local) Grant and through fundraising, Jarvis said, so no costs would be borne by either the City or the County.

WyDOT, she added, has already offered their support for the project.

Local artists were contacted to gauge their interest, and Jarvis indicated that Buffalo's D. Michael Thomas has shown interest in doing the sculpture.

The County Commission gave the okay for the Wild Bunch to proceed with the project, but asked to be kept informed and updated on the progress. They did offer to submit a letter of approval and support for the project.
