The Johnson County Recreation Board, at their last meeting September 12th in Kaycee, approved funding requests from both Buffalo and Kaycee for new basketball courts in both towns.

Buffalo Mayor Randy Dyess tells us more about the two projects.

Buffalo's courts were removed when the new tennis courts were constructed in Washington Park, and Dyess said the surface on the tennis courts is not designed for basketball, so new basketball courts needed to be constructed elsewhere.

The new basketball courts will be similar to the new tennis courts and will be constructed in the northwest corner of Washington Park on the site of the old labyrinth.

Dyess said the site is level and has no sprinklers to remove so it made sense to put the new courts there. Plus, he said, it wouldn't interfere with possible future expansion of the YMCA.

Dyess said the facility should be as nice as the new tennis courts when completed.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring of 2012 and should be completed that summer.
