At their regular meeting last week, Johnson County’s commissioners approved a request from County Coroner Dave Harness to approve a deputy coroner.
His office has recently experienced the loss of one of their deputies, and Harness approached the Commission with a replacement.
Dee Bitterman has worked in his office as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), and has completed Coroner Basic Training at the Law Enforcement Academy.
Harness said in a letter to the commissioners that she is very interested in Forensic Medicine and he thought she would be an asset to the county and his office. The commissioners approved Harness’ request.
Also at the meeting, some elected officials raised concerns over their budgets, in particular the salaries of their employees, saying the commissioners have approved higher salaries for less experienced workers in other departments, and they were concerned that the policy wasn’t fair to employees with more experience in their positions.
Discussions will continue over the next couple of weeks before the final budget is adopted.
