Johnson County Assistant Planner Jerry “Ozzie” Osborn has submitted a letter of his intent to retire from his position with the county effective Friday, December 30.
That is according to County Planner Rob Yingling, who informed the county commissioners at their Tuesday meeting.
Yingling was asked by commissioner Delbert Eitel if there was enough work in his office to justify filling Osborn's position.
Yingling said there has been a recent influx of boundary adjustments with more coming in the following weeks, and there are still tasks that have to be completed by state law in a timely fashion, as well as an anticipated increase in workload in his department as they take on more of the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tasks.
Yingling wants to hire a County Planner/GIS Manager, whose foremost responsibilities will be to take over the GIS duties and help with other planning duties as needed.
The position will be advertised through November, with a closing date for applications of Friday, December 2. The hope is to have someone hired by the first of the year.
