The Johnson County Commissioners, at their meeting last week, approved amendments to the existing regulations at the Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area at Lake DeSmet.
Rick Durfee, who is in charge of the recreation area, and Johnson County Sheriff Steve Kozisek, whose office is responsible for law enforcement there, presented the commission with their amendments for their approval. Durfee explains the changes.
Durfee said in addition to those regulations, there is a speed limit regulation for 10 mph, a requirement for an operator's license to operate a motor vehicle, and an off-road prohibition in the recreation area.
Littering is illegal and will be strictly enforced, he said. The purpose to the new regulations is to address recent complaints from users of the recreation area and to clarify the existing regulations.
There are existing regulations for the recreation area, and those will stay in effect until the new regulations become enforceable.
The commissioners approved the new regulations and they will become effective after a 45-day advertising period.
