The Johnson County Commissioners, at last week's meeting, heard from county attorney Ken DeCock regarding changes he proposed to the Animal Control Regulations currently being amended, and to regulations at the Mikesell/Potts Recreation area at Lake DeSmet.
The suggested changes to the animal control regulations were explained by DeCock.
The changes to the regulations at Mikesell/Potts were suggested by Johnson County Sheriff Steve Kozisek, amending the recently adopted regulations to include keeping dogs on leashes at the recreation area and adjacent public access areas.
The changes were approved by the commission, but must be advertised for 45 days in the local paper before they will take effect.
The full list of both sets of regulations will be published in this week's paper.
On a related note, the county finalized a 90-day trial agreement with the Buffalo City Animal Control Officer, who will be working occasionally in the county as well as the city on animal control issues. The county will pay the city $50 per call the ACO makes in the county.
The commission also approved a trial agreement with the St. Francis Animal Shelter to house animals at their facility for the county as well. Details on the agreement weren't discussed at the meeting.
