At their last meeting the Johnson County School District one Board of Trustees were updated on administration's plans for upcoming Summer School sessions, training for staff and the district entering into agreements with other districts and the University on common core programs.
Dr. Jeannie Barent reported that the district is beginning to assess summer school dollars and will be meeting with principals at the various schools to see how best to utilize those funds.
Summer Academy is also in the works, she said, which will give substitute teachers, classroom teachers and staff members the opportunity to earn 12 credit hours at no cost to them to continue their growth as educators.
JCSD1 along with a number of districts in the state, is working with the University of Wyo and the Wyoming Department of Education to move the common core ahead, as opposed to the districts working separately toward the same goal.
She explains further.
The coalition that will be formed is still in the planning stages and will be open to districts in the state as an option.
