JCSD1 Board Recognizes Staff Awards, Certifications

Johnson County School District 1 Board of Trustees recognized a number of district teachers and staff for their accomplishments and awards at their meeting Monday night.
Three teachers were recognized for becoming Nationally Certified.
Dr. Jeanie Barent, Associate Superintendent, introduced them to the board.
The teachers, Karen Blaney, Christine Houseman and Rebecca Qualm, compiled a year-long portfolio that included videos of their classroom teaching and written documentaries on their curriculum content and work with students, work outside the classroom with families and the community, and were required to take a rigorous written exams on their content knowledge. Only 30 percent of teachers applying become board certified each year.
Former Board Chair Deb McMahon informed the board that during the recent Wyoming School Board Association Conference, more recognition was bestowed on the district.
Tim Ogan was awarded the Special Education Director of the Year.
Susan Palmerlee received the Golden Bell Award.
And the School District received the 2011 Standard of Excellence Award, given to those districts that have a majority of its members that have received or are eligible for the Certified Master Board Member Award.
