The Johnson County School District One Board of Trustees, at their meeting this week, discussed a request from the Johnson County Healthcare Center to convey a portion of land owned by the district to the hospital.
The land the hospital is seeking will assure they have a large enough “footprint” for their proposed new nursing home they are hoping to build in the next few years.
District Superintendent Dr. Rod Kessler explained more about the conveyance to the school board.
Kessler went on to explain the district would require an agreement that would allow them access to the property at any time for maintenance and/or additions to their storage building and the hospital would be responsible for expenses incurred for fencing or other safety requirements for such work to be done.
Discussions by the board included why a conveyance was necessary and why an easement wouldn't work as well for this particular circumstance.
The board voted unanimously to start the paperwork process with the district's stipulations and allow the hospital to conduct surveys and whatever other requirements are needed to get either a conveyance or an easement on the small piece of land needed for the proposed new nursing home project.
