JCSD1 Board Discusses Issues With Bids On New School

On the agenda for the Johnson County School Board meeting Monday night was discussion and approval of bids for testing and commissioning services on the new Cloud Peak School project.

But at the bid openings two weeks ago, the School Facilities Department discovered that the contractors that bid on the two seperate contracts had not met the criteria outlined in the Request For Proposals, and are now working out how to proceed.

One bid is for commissioning services and is not time-sensitive, while the other concerns testing/materials and needs to be awarded now so pre-construction can begin.

The District's Business Manager, Matt Ramey, told the board that the SFD and the district are discussing options such as having the design engineer on the project contract for the commissioning services, or actually going back out to bid on that portion of the project.

On the testing and materials portion, Ramey said dirtwork has begun and the contractor will need the agreement before the board's next meeting in May. He said he expects a decision on the contractor from the SFD shortly and needed the board's approval to award the contract on testing and materials once they make that decision.

The board authorized he or Dr. Rod Kessler to award the contract on the board's behalf to keep the project on its tight schedule.
