At their final meeting in 2012, the Johnson County School District One Board of Trustees approved a new rate schedule for district bus drivers, at the request of Transportation Director Dennis Zezas.
Superintendent Dr. Rod Kessler explained that the district had hired drivers for many years and paid them either on an hourly rate or on a per-route basis. The district has been trying to move towards on all-hourly system to make it easier to track, but realized that would not reward drivers with seniority and experience.
He explained more to the board.
Kessler said the cost of implementing the changes would be roughly $8,000 to $15,000 in a total annual budget of $750,000.
It isn't a huge increase, he said, but the changes in the rate schedule will affect both hourly and substitute drivers and will give Zezas some flexibility in hiring and maintaining drivers within the district.
The board approved the rate schedule change.
