The Johnson County Healthcare Center's Board of Trustees had their monthly meeting last week, and discussed replacing two doctors that are retiring.

According to JCHC Information Specialist Marcy Schueler, Dr. Gabriele Knierim has retired from practicing Family Medicine, and Chief of Staff Dr. Grace Gosar will be retiring from practicing medicine later this month. She will, according to Schueler, continue seeing patients until March of 2012, and will be referring her patients to other Family Practitioners.

At the Board meeting last week, Hospital Administrator Sandy Ward said the search continues for replacements for Drs. Knierim and Gosar, and that a new Chief of Staff will have to be chosen.

If the healthcare center and the board follow past appointments, which are usually awarded by seniority, Ward said Dr. Brian Darnell would be Chief of Staff; Dr. Blaine Ruby would be Vice-Chief of Staff; and Dr. Ryan Ludwig would be Secretery.

The healthcare center, Ward said, will also be looking for female physicians for their Obstetrics department.
Schueler added the JCHC is looking nationwide for a Family Doctor who practices Obstetrics, but in the meantime Physicians Assistant Traci Darnell is on hand for women's health issues.

The JCHC has also hired a Family Nurse Practitioner, Layne Strannigan, who will work 2 days a week at the Kaycee Clinic, and 3 days a week at the Buffalo Clinic. She is fully qualified for women's health issues and can write presriptions for patients.
